Langer's Delicatessen-Restaurant — one of those places that makes you immediately suspicious of every other deli claiming to be good. Open since 1947, it’s old-school in the exact right way: fluorescent lighting, booths that have seen things, and absolutely no interest in reinventing itself for Instagram. The pastrami is famously perfect for a reason—hand-cut, warm, absurdly tender—and the #19 has reached the level of civic landmark at this point. A deeply reassuring room full of people eating the same thing they’ve been ordering for decades, which is generally a very good sign.
